BHARAT-EU: Advancing Renewable Hydrogen through EU-India Cooperation
We are excited to announce the launch of the BHARAT-EU project!
BHARAT-EU is a four-year EU–India cooperation research and innovation project developing a sustainable Waste-to-Renewable Hydrogen (W2rH) process that converts agricultural, forestry, industrial, and municipal biogenic waste into renewable bio-hydrogen and valuable carbon-based products.
The project combines advanced thermochemical and biological technologies, including gasification, anaerobic digestion, biomethanation, and plasma pyrolysis, to transform non-recyclable biogenic waste into clean energy while recovering biogenic solid carbon and ultra-pure CO₂ as valuable byproducts. With a strong focus on feedstock flexibility, BHARAT-EU is designed to process a wide range of biogenic waste streams, supporting a circular value chain that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, increases resource efficiency, and contributes to avoided emissions and the transition towards a climate-neutral economy.
Bringing together 21 partners from Europe and India, including universities, research organisations, SMEs, and industrial leaders, BHARAT-EU will develop and validate innovative renewable hydrogen production technologies from laboratory scale through pilot demonstration in industrially relevant environments. The project also places significant emphasis on technoeconomics, sustainability assessment, and the development of a comprehensive safety plan to ensure that its solutions are safe, scalable, and economically viable while addressing challenges in agricultural, forestry, industrial, and municipal waste management.
VELTIS is proud to contribute as the lead beneficiary of Work Package 8 (WP8): Communication, Dissemination, and Exploitation throughout the project’s 48-month duration.
Our role includes developing the project’s communication and dissemination strategy, creating communication materials, digital tools, and the project website, strengthening collaboration between European and Indian partners, and supporting policy recommendations that will help maximise the project’s impact and facilitate the wider uptake of its innovative renewable hydrogen solutions.
